The daily, weekly and monthly skin regime rulebook

With modern life often feeling like someone’s forgotten to take their foot off the accelerator pedal, it can be tough to find the time to prioritise looking after our skin properly. However, it is not as difficult as it may seem.

If you’re hoping to achieve healthy looking, glowing skin, there are some essentials that you should not fail to incorporate into your daily, weekly and monthly routine.

The key is to stick to a simple yet results driven skincare regime and here is our guide which does just that…

DAILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

  1. CLEANSE
It can often take all of the will in the world – once you’ve got your favourite old t-shirt and pyjama bottom combo on and are nestled under your duvet – to wash your face before bed. However, it’s vital to make sure you’re cleansing twice a day, especially when wearing makeup. Makeup can not only clog your pores, but also trap dirt and pollution on your skin, blocking it from essential repair while you sleep.

Cleansing when you wake up also preps skin for receiving topical products like antioxidants, moisturisers and suncreams.

  2. MOISTURISE
“It’s incredibly Important to use high quality moisturiser to keep skin plump and hydrated,” says our Skincare Expert Jenny Scragg .“The most noteworthy ingredient to look out for is Hyaluronic Acid, which I’m sure you will have heard of if you’re into looking after your skin.”

This ingredient is a buzz word for a reason. According to the National Institute of Health1, around half of the Hyaluronic Acid in your body is present in your skin. Here it seeks to bind itself to water particles in order to aid the retention of moisture, which in turn leaves skin looking supple and aglow.

The skin around our eyes is extremely thin, so it often suffers most from the effects of dehydration. With this in mind, it needs particular attention. A tailored eye cream is an effective way to look after this area day and night.

  3. SPF
When it comes to packing your washbag, SPF products should be the first thing that we reach for. We’re sure none of you are shy of sharing this nugget of advice with your children and family in the summer, but do you practice what you preach all year round?

Sun protection is so important that, much like a balanced meal or 10,000 steps, you shouldn’t go a day without it. This goes for the winter months, too! Try to build it into your moisturiser and make sure the product is high quality with broad spectrum protection.

  4. BASICS – SLEEP, HYDRATION
It’s impossible to ignore the effects of de-stressing, sleep and water on your skin. Staying hydrated throughout helps to improve skin elasticity, making it look plump and youthful.

It’s also paramount to dedicate at least seven hours in every 24 to getting some rest. This can help to regulate your metabolism and allow your skin cells to repair and rejuvenate, which is a process that accelerates while we’re asleep.

WEEKLY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

  1. EXFOLIATE
Even after daily cleansing, dead skin cells can build up on the surface of your pores which can result
in it appearing rough, blemished, and dull.

Get into the habit of exfoliating once or twice a week to smooth and brighten your face. Exfoliation also helps skincare products to penetrate the skin more effectively. If you’ve got oily or spot-prone skin, something many of us suffer with way beyond our adolescent years, exfoliating is a must. It’s important to ensure that this is only part of your weekly routine, however, as over-exfoliation can lead to skin irritation and inflammation.

  2. ACTIVATE
Incorporate skincare products which are qualified to activate the skin, such as retinol. Using retinol once or twice a week will increase cell turnover and aid the production of collagen, in order to improve fine lines and enhance general skin texture and tone. Make sure to apply your retinol in the evening (before bed) when your skin is most receptive to skincare products.

  3. STIMULATE
Take your skin regime to the next level by incorporating a home-use radiofrequency device into your regime, such as NEWA. Using this at-home device two to three times a week will stimulate collagen production, which aids the tightening and lifting of lax and sagging skin on the face and neck, to preserve the natural smoothness and radiance of the skin.

  4. REMEMBER TO CLEAN AND DISINFECT
We’re not talking about face cleansing here, but the other things that come into contact with your skin. Dust and bacteria transferred from your essentials can cause irritation and infection. Be sure to clean up your make-up brushes on a weekly basis as all they can harbour bacteria and harm your skin over time.

MONTHLY – QUARTERLY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

  1. GIVE YOUR SKIN PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT
We recommend that you book in with your local skin expert who will be equipped to complete a thorough skin consultation and give you up to date advice on the best skincare procedures to carry out at home. They will also build you a custom treatment plan which targets your specific skin needs. Your practitioner may recommend an ENDYMED treatment plan, as it provides an abundant variety of solutions to the most prolific skin ageing concerns.

Visiting your local skin expert can also provide the essential relaxation time that seems to be dwindling for many of us as a result of our ever-growing list of commitments and hectic lifestyles.

  2. CHECK YOUR EXPIRATION DATE
Never get into the habit of using up all of your beauty essentials without being mindful of their expiration. Check for their due dates and ditch the ones that are already expired. Special precaution should also be given to products that you scoop out with your fingers, as these are prone to contamination and may cause breakouts.

We hope you are now fully equipped to take on your simple, yet results driven daily, weekly and monthly skin routine to help you achieve your skin goals.. The most important thing to remember is to invest time in our skin; time taken to think about what we are putting onto our skin and time to start looking after our skin!
